The Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority is exploring the development of a recreation and wellness destination on approximately 136 acres of airport-owned land near Aviation Parkway and Interstate 40.

The Airport Authority is working with Pacific Elm Properties to evaluate opportunities for a destination that serves the community, complements the natural character of the site and generates long-term revenue to support the airport's mission.

Potential features under consideration include:

  • Water-based recreation

  • Land sports and outdoor activities

  • Family-friendly attractions

  • Retail

  • Food and beverage offerings

  • Lodging

Community Engagement

Community input has been an important part of the planning process. In fall 2025, the Airport Authority and Pacific Elm Properties hosted three public workshops where community members could learn about the project, ask questions and share feedback.
