RDU Airport, N.C. – Search and rescue efforts for the missing private plane in Umstead State Park are continuing this morning. Officials have narrowed the search area within the park.

The Raleigh Fire Department is leading the coordinated effort, with more than a dozen local and state agencies assisting. Additional crews include N.C. State Park Rangers, and Wake Forest, Holly Springs, and New Hope Fire Departments.

Once the plane is found, its location will determine which agency will secure the site. Then, the National Transportation Safety Board will lead an investigation.

“Authority personnel will continue to support the agencies involved in the search and rescue effort,” said Michael Landguth, president and CEO of the Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority. “We ask that people avoid the area around Umstead State Park while search and rescue efforts are underway.”

The RDU airfield is fully operational.
