Transform RDU projects are planned, designed and constructed with Raleigh-Durham International Airport's sustainability principles and Sustainability Management Plan in mind. The Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority considers long-term environmental, economic, social and operational impacts as it invests in infrastructure to support RDU's future.
Sustainable practices vary by project and may include reducing land disturbance, conserving energy, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, reusing materials and improving long-term operational efficiency. The Airport Authority also pursues recognized sustainability ratings, including Envision verification and Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification, when appropriate.

Envision
Envision is a sustainability framework developed by the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure for planning, designing, constructing and operating sustainable and resilient civil infrastructure. The framework evaluates projects across five categories: quality of life, leadership, resource allocation, natural world, and climate and resilience.
LEED
Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is a globally recognized green building rating system. The framework evaluates areas including carbon, energy, water, waste, transportation, materials, health and indoor environmental quality.
